Summer is in full swing in the garden.
Yesterday morning, I met Jane, one of the Plot Against Hunger volunteers, to weed and we cleaned up the outside garden and tidied the inside garden.
Alex, my garden neighbor, who has been harvesting and taking our vegetables to AFAC was also in the garden, so we were able to walk through the possibilities for the coming week.
The gardens are looking good, and as we harvest things, like cabbages and onions, we can plant things like summer squash and bush beans. So far, we’ve sent about 35 pound of produce to AFAC. With cucumbers in the offing and squash seedlings sprouting leaves, we should have more soon.
In my own garden I am getting kale, chard, carrots and lettuces. The surprise this week was two beautiful little cucumbers with more coming on and blossoming okra.
I also have eggplant blossoms and cut some herbs to throw into a pasta dish for dinner. Summertime and the eating is good!
