I am certainly eating from the garden these days, which is a great pleasure. This weekend I harvested carrots, beets, lettuces, radishes and onions.
From what I could see, there are at least three zucchini that will be ready later this week,
tomatoes small and large on all the plants,
some lovely bell peppers, which seem early,
and what looks to be the potential for a lot of cucumbers. Bread and butter pickles, here I come!!!
The pole beans are blossoming, so I hope to have those as well.
And there are flowers galore, especially bee balm,
And zinnias, whose artful buds I had not taken much notice of before. There is always something new in the garden.
I brought home a bouquet of course.
Later this week, I will need to get some bone meal onto the tomatoes, as at least one plant appears to have some blossom rot. In the meantime, I’ll be watching the squash so I can pick them at a reasonable size!
Beautiful flowers again ! It seems that all your hard work has paid off ! Vegetables are still a rarity (unless you wish to pay 7.50 for an avocado). What are you doing with the pole beans ? I have never tried them, they seem (maybe wrongly) too hard to me.

Ple beans are much easier than the regular bush beans. You don’t have to bend over to pick them, and they bear all summer long. I plant a couple different varieties. They are easy, except they need something to grow up! Goodness, I can’t believe your grocery prices. We get 3 avocados for $4 and I think that’s expensive.

Maybe I should move countries (or not eating avocados for some time).

Well, we have cheap avocados, but think about our politics… 😉

Oh my goodness me! Lisa, what a bounty – you sure do have green thumbs! I am green with envy at the thought of a summer of crisp juicy vegetables and bouquets of fresh flowers sitting atop your crafty felt work – looking artfully Bohemian too by the way!! My memory says the garden is growing way better this year – less critters stealing the crops? Better balance of sun and rain? All of the above?

Well, it’s a new year. Something’s been at the beets, voles I think, but it looks like I may have some good crops. I hope so!!! Glad my living room looks artfully Bohemian, too…

Oh, I have fresh veggie envy! As you know, we are months behind you. 😦
I love that the discs of zinnias mimic the felted circles on your table runner. Beautiful bouquet!

Thanks, Eliza! I didn’t even notice that. I do love zinnias…

We’re a couple of weeks behind you and I’m so jealous of your bounty! Isn’t it a wonderful feeling to put your own produce on the table?

Yes. I like it when all salad ingredients or dinner vegetables came from the garden!

Wonderful produce, Lisa. I do hope you can get this one:

A lovely song, Derrick! Thanks. I’m glad summer is indeed “icumen.”

You have the greenest of green thumbs! Are you a vegetarian? At least when the garden is producing like this? I LOVE zinnias–and that arrangement, on your penny rug runner, is perfect!

Thanks, Kerry. Eliza Waters noticed the zinnias and the coins, too. I had to go back and look and then saw it myself. I was a vegetarian for about 28 years. I gave it up about 10 years ago after a bout with pneumonia.

Oh, my word! You are so far ahead of us. We are still in the greens and radish phase of things. Your garden looks grand! And, pretty arrangement.

So, I’m thinking you’d have to set out plants that far north, eh? It would pay to have a greenhouse. All my friends from northern climes are big seed starters, and I’ve always lived where I could put seed right in the ground and still have a long enough growing season. In fact, I planted carrots in February and March. But you’ve got lettuce paradise up there. After early June it all bolts here; have to plant again in late August.

Great harvest of vegetables and flowers, Lisa; so inspiring. Tomorrow is our shortest day of the year so I am looking forward to being more active in the garden.

Yes, after that short day things start getting longer. For us, of course, it’s the longest day and things will be getting shorter…

Wow, Lisa, what a hearty, healthy crop. I’m so happy for you, especially after last year’s disappointment. Are you feeling more settled back in your home now?

Yes, I’m hoping it will be a better garden year. And I’m going to paint the kitchen, if not this weekend, by next week, which I’m taking off! I also got a shelving/breakfast bar design I hope to get installed soon. I’m in overdrive for me…

Wow, you do have a lot going on. What color did you choose? Or is it a surprise/reveal? I’m willing to wait. 🙂 I can’t wait to see your breakfast bar installed. I remember you telling us about the idea. Enjoy your time off…is that the week of the 4th?

It’s next week–running int the Fourth. The paint is Benjamin Moore Shore house green 2047-50 and Suntan yellow 2155-50. The yellow will go on the wall toward the living room. Not sure if you can plug this into the internet and see some version of the colors.

Lisa, we’ve used Benjamin Moore colors for years so I have a color deck! I looked up your colors and they’re so rich and wonderful. That green will be a nice contrast against the wood. I love color. It makes such an impact.

Oooh, thanks, Alys. Color supporters are always welcome. I keep getting people recommending white, beige, eggshell, and the color in the living room (Sherwin Williams Memento Ivory). I bought the paint today…

I say blah to beige and it’s cousins listed above. My living room is painted sage green with a mural on one wall. The kitchen is mostly tiled. Our bedroom is blue and our home office yellow and green. Color is so inviting. It sets moods, lifts spirits, calms. I can’t wait to see your painted room.

I like eating from my garden, too. I try to stretch it into fall and winter with lat plantings and a cold frame, but there’s always that point when I’m buying produce again…
