When you hear people complaining about Washington and its evil ways, chances are they’ve added a lot of their own bile to the noxious mixture brewed by representatives from all 50 states.  It hardly seems fair to blame Washington.  This blog is about at least some of the real life and neat places near the ground zero of political dysfunction.

      I saw your article on Scotland in Bucket List publications. It’s such a beautiful place. Head for Inverewe Gardens next trip. Lots of space for kids to run. Then, when I checked out your blog, I saw you were a writer. Thought I’d follow!

    “political dysfunction” you have a great attitude to see it as a place to celebrate! They are not there all the time:-) Not their home town..I’ve been there and it is a fascinating place:-)

    I have an old chum who lives in DC and is very much into the political scene. I think I will like to read some local color about fresh garden beets and old/new coats to redeem that area from the impressions she gives me, so I’m looking forward to visiting here on a regular basis.

    Ah, nice to find you here, oh Arlington resident. I have several nieces and nephews who live/work/play in D.C. They soon, I’m sure, will move out of the madness and into a town (city?) like Arlington. Looking forward to reading more.

    Ground zero of political dysfunction! What a wonderful phrase. I have never read a word so easily describing Washington. I love your blog, I am beginning my own gardening this year and I hope that reading yours would give me ideas about gardening, I love reading blogs about nature.

    There is always something wonderful about the city you do not like for being what it is..

      Well, I got tired of people complaining about the Washington area as though there was nothing but politics. And all those political representatives come from someplace else to cause the chaos and dysfunction. So it’s a bit rich to complain about it that way. In any event, it’s a nice place, and I try to write about the places that are always here and the folks who live here rather than flying in on Monday and leaving on Thursday as many of the creators of chaos and dysfunction do….

    As a foreigner, I keep away from politics though I reside in the area, but I have fallen in love with the diverse people and cultures here. Granted there are things I have failed to adapt to, like humidity, but I love the back alleys and ‘new’ places that my walking group leader takes us to. DC is truly a wonderful place as long as you keep your eyes open to beauty. It’s good to hear from someone else who lives in Arlington – I tell people the best place to live in the US!

    I’ve never frequented Washington, nor any of the other fascinating towns and cities in the USA but I certainly like the idea of authentic living, no matter where we reside.
