Jane and I were able to plant the large plot garden on Saturday morning. It was clear and bright and sunny and warm. In the afternoon, all hell broke loose.
Sunday was bright, but the wind was amazing.
I decided to use the new camera to spy on unsuspecting animals.
This rabbit thought it was safe in the thicket.
Alas, I was having bad thoughts about it, even though it’s quite a distance from my garden (one of its cousins has eaten the squash and cucumber plant seedlings there).
The doves are very active now, too. Soon they’ll be leading their offspring through the dangerous grass, teaching them how to be doves.

The new camera is taking very clear photos! It’s a shame it isn’t of something you appreciate more. Maybe you could start bartering with them – ‘Leave my garden alone and I’ll post lovely photos of you on my blog…….’ No? 🙂 We too have had some extraordinary winds – I wonder if it is part of the new norm. There are signs that winter is arriving here at last. April and the first half of May were unusually warm, but most enjoyable – I hope your summer is peeping in.

I’ve turned the heat back on!!! 50’s and rain. It will be warmer by the end of the month…for sure…or we’re entering a new ice age. The telephoto lens on the camera is quite nice. I wish I had more time to mess with it. It will take a while to learn. Are you snugged in for winter? I think I’m coming not to mind winter so awfully, though warmth is better…

I enjoy snuggling up for winter and – now that I am in the enviable position of not having to go out if I don’t wish to – have been quite enjoying the last couple. I was gifted an excellent pair of walking boots and a serious rain jacket for Mother’s Day to fulfill my wish to be able to take Siddy for a walk no matter the precipitation and this morning they got the first real trial – Me and Siddy just dancin’ in the rain!! It is so bleak and dreary here today that I’m going to spend the afternoon snuggled up with my knitting and a good movie 🙂

Now that’s the way to handle bad weather, although you now seem admirably equipped. Now you can take your daily constitutional with Siddy and not worry about the rain. There is no bad weather; only the wrong clothes. 😉

It’s off a really grief-processing album. Have you heard The River and the Thread? It’s really amazing and lovely as an album. I have a number of favorites from it. But Black Cadillac–whew–apparently she lost step mother, father, step sister, and mother in the span of two years and that album is the result. Glad you liked it!

You probably knew I might be tempted to recall this poem by the title of your post here. I like your photos with your new camera…which does indeed see the wind, as well as some lovely little critters sheltering themselves from it. We’ve had some very windy days here in Maine, too, for the past week. My wind chimes have been going nuts, and for a few moments we lost electricity, so strong were the gusts this morning. I hope your seedlings stay strong.

That was definitely the poem I was thinking of–for some reason, I thought it was de la Mare, not Rossetti, but looked it up before last weekend and wound up reading about Christina. Glad you still have electricity! I hope it warms soon as well.

It is surprising how many of her lines have entered into our general culture. Her poem “In The Bleak Midwinter” inspired what I think is one of the most gorgeous melodies among the carols we usually hear at Christmas time these days.

I did not know that, and I know the Carol. I may need to explore her poetry a bit more. But right now, I’ve got my paws on Seamus Heaney’s translation of Book VI of the Aeneid. It’s starting to get exciting, as he’s heading into the cave…

How could you have bad thoughts about such a sweet face?! I know, I know . . . they say serial killer Ted Bundy was good-looking, too! Hasn’t the weather in the east been nutty this year? It seems, maybe, possible, that things are going to be more normal soon.

It’s a Nikon, not sure what model, but there’s a picture in the April 11 post. It came with two lenses, one the zoom, and I thought it would be nice to do more than the Coolpix can do. I still miss using my two film cameras, but the blogging necessitates digital. It’s going to take some time to learn, as it still isn’t like setting for film. Thing is, I’m not all that impatient about learning it, mostly because I just don’t have time right now and I don’t like lugging it around!

Nice captures of the wind, the rabbit, and the dove. I’m having bad thoughts about rabbits, too. Cheeky little devils still keep finding ways into the garden. The weather has been crazy. Some days we need the air conditioning and others we need the heat! I like the days that are in between when we can have free fresh air without having to turn on anything to warm or cool it. 🙂

Yup, I think it’s going to be a long process. The more time I get to spend with it, the more comfortable (and skillful) I’ll get I assume. If I’m taking any shots like yours in two years, I’ll be pretty happy!

I’m very impressed by the zoom on your camera. I think rabbits are kind of cute, but then I haven’t just had one eat my squash and cucumber seedlings. My mother also used to lose patience with rabbits when I was a boy and for much the same reason. 🙂
